Details
Forbidden to live in Belfort during the Ancien Régime, Jews didn't start settling in the town until 1789, at the time of the Revolution. The Belfort synagogue de Belfort, designed by M. Poisat senior, was inaugurated in 1857. It was built thanks to the participation of 50 heads of family on a piece of land bought on 8th August 1852. It was listed in the supplementary inventory of the "Monuments Historiques" on 18th October 1983.
