La nécropole nationale
La nécropole nationale
Details
Inaugurated in 1924 in the presence of survivors of the siege of 1870-1871, this necropolis was developed until 1935. 876 graves of French soldiers who died in combat were originally located in this cemetery. The intention was to bring together in a dedicated cemetery the soldiers who died in military hospitals during the 1914-1918 war. Over the years and through exhumations, the last of which took place in 1988, the soldiers of the First World War were brought together in this single cemetery. Today, there are 919 French soldiers and 8 foreigners (Poles, Russians and Czechs).
