La nécropole nationale

Details

To date, this cemetery contains 160 graves of soldiers who died in the First World War at the Morvillars hospital. A monument to the fallen has been erected here. This construction is a reconstruction of the Lantern of the Dead made of pink Vosges sandstone. It is 8 m high, with a square base measuring 1.2 m on each side. Crowned by a Greek cross, the monument bears the names of the 32 Morvillars children who died in 1914-1918 and the five who died in 1939-1945. In Joncherey, not far from Morvillars, a monument commemorates the first two casualties of this conflict, on 2 August 1914: French corporal Jules-André Peugeot and German lieutenant Camille Meyer.
