Following the success of the Mozart Requiem concert in April 2023, the Arcanes ensemble, still associated with the Orchestre Saint-Colomban, is offering a new Vivaldi programme for choir and orchestra: Gloria & Dixit Dominus.
Vivaldi's sacred music did not enjoy the same success as his concerti and operas, and was less frequently performed during his lifetime. Nevertheless, its artistic qualities, inspiration and expression are on a par with the rest of his musical output. The Gloria RV 598 composed for the Pieta del ospidale in Venice is today, along with his Stabat Mater, a "hit" played in many concerts. His Dixit Dominus RV594, written for soloists and double choir, marks a stylistic maturation and a more elaborate and complex musical style.
Two landmark works in the Italian composer's sacred music.
