Details
The character of Medea, whose tragic destiny blithely navigates betrayal, murder and black magic, can just as easily make us die laughing! That's the challenge taken up here by the Ensemble Les Surprises as they revive opera parodies, which were very much in vogue in the Baroque period. Several pastiches of Médée et Jason have appeared, mocking Corneille's tragedy, Marc-Antoine CHARPENTIER's opera and the lesser-known work by François-Joseph SALOMON. Here, in a revisited version, the antihero Jason is mocked as much as the megalomaniac King Creon, bringing together genres from the tragic to the comic, alternating light vaudeville and more serious arias, and mixing theatre, dance and music. It's an operatic feast of delightful fantasy!
