La vie et la mort de Jacques Chirac, roi des français
La vie et la mort de Jacques Chirac, roi des français
Details
Who is Jacques Chirac? What does he hide beneath his grotesque, conquering and popular mask? And how can he reveal something about our democracy? A dreamlike comedy, a zany investigation and a portrait of a legacy, La Vie et la mort de J. Chirac is the first part of the series Huit rois (nos présidents), which aims to paint a theatrical portrait of the eight presidents of the Fifth Republic, from Charles de Gaulle to Emmanuel Macron.
"In 1995, I was six years old and Jacques Chirac was elected President of the Republic. He sped off to the Elysée Palace in his Citroën CX - light, reconciled, joyful. What is this memory all about? For me - and perhaps for my whole generation - Chirac is the image of childhood and a shared carefree spirit. The twentieth century of disasters was about to come to an end. I remember 1995. It was the beginning of a new era. I open my eyes again. It's 2020. Jacques Chirac is dead.
